Hooray! Summer is officially here! I have been kind of MIA the last couple weeks…Apparently this summer thing has really got me worn out.
In all reality, the start of summer greeted me with probably the worst case of strep throat I have ever endured. I was knocked out for a good four days before finally feeling like myself again. Wedding planning has kept me busy and this past weekend we celebrated the marriage of Cody’s Dad and step-mom.
I’m back today to write about our End of Year Party (which…teaser! Was the EASIEST and CALMEST EOY party I have ever had!) and share about what I have in store for you this summer.

End of Year Party
The last day of school was only 12 days ago but I am really having to go back in my memory to flesh out all the details. #summerprobs
I wrote a whole blog post on end of year party ideas at the beginning of May. Our team decided to do a “Popcorn and Pajama Party” mainly because our activity fund had all of $11 in it and we had already asked parents for money a couple times this year so the cheapest thing we could come up with was popcorn, pajamas, and a movie. But it was a hit!
I greeted the almost third graders with a fun door decoration that I literally grabbed out of the recycle bin and whipped up the afternoon before.
My kiddos worked on a “Second Grade Superpowers” packet that allowed them to reflect on this past years friends, memories, lessons, and their goals for next year.
At the beginning of the year I always read “First Day Jitters” which would mean that I should probably read “Last Day Blues” but instead I read “You Are My Wonders” which is a book depicting the relationship between students and their teacher. You’d think that it’s teachers giving to kids all year long but in reality our kids give so much to us!
Then it was time for our Popcorn and Pajama Party. We moved all the desks out of the way and set up the chairs “theater style.” The kids got super excited about this. I also let them take their shoes off.
And apparently no shoes + empty space in the back of the room = a great opportunity to run and slide in your socks.
I popped some popcorn and we had ourselves a party.
Of course after the movie was over we still had a couple hours to go, but luckily by this point I was only left with 8 kiddos. So we spent some time outside, ate lunch, and watched another movie because IT’S THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL!
Oh! And I also won the “Most Organized Classroom” award at school, which wasn’t really all that surprising but makes me feel like I now have some credibility to this whole “The Simply Organized Teacher” Blog.
I wish I had some fun pictures to show you what I have been up to this summer. But like I said at the beginning, my first four days of summer looked a lot like this:
Summer Plans For The Blog
So now that we are knee deep in summer, I wanted to share a little bit of what I have planned for The Simply Organized Teacher. If you are on my newsletter, you already know that I have been struggling with some motivation.
(If you are not on my email list, sign up here to be the first to know about what’s going on and be in the know on behind the scenes stuff!).
I had a lot of really big goals for this summer that included an ebook and an online course on classroom organization. I have decided that both are too much to undertake along with posting on the blog consistently, planning a wedding, and enjoying a summer break.
All that to say, I will be publishing my own book on Classroom Organization and Management. I am currently calling it “The Simply Organized Classroom: Your Complete Guide to Classroom Organization and Management.”
I am planning to launch it at the beginning of July. But if you would like to get a FREE early copy in exchange for a review and helping me promote it, please click here and I will send you a copy! 🙂
