Jordan, a second year teacher, and I sat down for a ninety minute coaching session. In this podcast series we break down practical ideas for the elementary classroom, specifically when it comes to preparing for a new school year.

What is a Coaching Session
I originally started The Simply Organized Teacher with the intention of doing 1:1 Coaching for teachers to help them in their specific classroom. It has turned into so much more than that but sometimes I like to go back to my roots and do some brainstorming with teachers.
Jordan won a free coaching session when she purchased the Kickstart Your School Year course. As a student of the course you get access to lessons on all the topics of organization, management, time management, and first weeks of school.
With a coaching session we take it a step further and talk specifics for your elementary classroom organization needs. Which is exactly what Jordan and I did.
This coaching session is broken up into three parts that will be released over Season 5 of the podcast. All the podcast notes will be housed here!
Jordan shared that she struggled last year with a lot of things (hello, first year teacher!). She also shared that she felt like it was important to get her classroom organization under control to help alleviate the stress of other things.
In our coaching session we talked about the following areas to organize:
- Teacher Area
- Classroom Cabinets (check out this post on 5 Tips for Organizing Your Cabinets)
- Student Desks
- The general flow of the Classroom

Part 2: Classroom Management Coaching Session
This week Jordan and I continue our coaching session. We switch gears and talk about the important behavior management systems she needs in place and how to implement them.
We talk about how she can better utilize Class Dojo and Student Jobs as a way to positively reinforce behavior. Plus, she shares some real feelings about how difficult the first year is.
Part 3: Lesson Planning Coaching
For the final installment of the Live Coaching Session, Jordan and I talk about time management as it pertains to lesson planning. We discuss ways to streamline the lesson planning process with her team, I share my outline for lesson planning with her, and we talk about planning for 4 days a week instead of 5 to allow plenty of time for makeup.
