Courtney starts off the show with a bang by sharing a really inspirational quote that her youth pastor wrote to her upon her high school graduation.
Find where your deep gladness meets the worlds deep need and give a life of self giving love…
Well…..If that doesn’t inspire you then….maybe you don’t have a heart?!? Kidding, of course! But I love that this is a quote Courtney says she lives by because as her coworker and friend for the past 6 years, I see that day in and day out at she serves her students, coworkers, and peers.
Courtney started out as a 4th grade teacher, then moved to 5th, and is now an Exchange Teacher for the Teacher Fellows Program through Texas State University. She is also the other half behind Mustard Seed Teaching (we briefly talked about it Tiffany’s episode) and has helped guest post on my blog about ways to motivate older students. Courtney and I talk about finding the middle ground of loving your kids well but also respecting a healthy boundary of personal life and professional life. Here is the conclusion we came to….It’s okay to NOT BE PERFECT!!!
Of course, we wrap up talking about Courtney’s biggest pet peeve in teaching (negative people with fixed mindsets- to which I say AMEN!) what is keeping her sane right now (surrounding herself with inspiring people and staying active with her fitbit!), and her favorite kid moment (stapling her fingers together, being kicked in the face with a ball, and visiting a student who made some poor choices and having an important conversation about choices).
I’d love for you to have a listen HERE! And I would especially love it if you shared it with your other teacher friends!!!
