In today’s episode, Linda shares her path to learning about the importance of implementing classroom management from day one. She gives some ideas for how you can move past the basic classroom management strategies and seek to build a culture and community in your classroom. We also talk about the importance of stress management and how you can practice the idea of Sabbath, even in the middle of the craziness of teaching.
Building Relationships and Stress Management
Linda is a former teacher and currently running her business Teach 4 the Heart with her husband! (My dream!!!) She produces podcasts, blogs, books, Bible studies, and courses all in the name of supporting teachers. Which is the heartbeat of what I do here at The Simply Organized Teacher so I loved getting to talk with someone who has the same mission as me!
She starts out by telling us about how afraid she was to redirect or confront her students when she began teaching. But she also tells us the really important lesson she learned and how she conquered her fear of confronting misbehaving students (she taught secondary, so I get it…I’d be intimidated too!). Now she has free and paid courses all on implementing classroom management in your classroom!
We also talk about how you can manage the mental stress we face as teachers. And here is what she told us. We can’t do it all…so stop feeling guilty about what you say “no” to (YAAAAS!). She also talks about how important her faith is in maintaining a positive outlook on teaching and the struggles that come with it.
Linda and I wrap up talking about Sabbath because it is something I am trying to practice these days and I was just curious another Christian teacher’s thoughts on the subject. Do you practice Sabbath? If so, how and when? I am curious! Leave a comment below or come find me on Instagram and let me know!
I’d love for you to listen HERE!! I would also love it if you shared it with a teacher friend by sending it to them, positing it on your social media accounts, or saving it to Pinterest!
